Map json files

by ac4pic » Thu May 26, 2016 10:44 pm

I have been wondering what "data" in "layers" served for, I understand just about every other piece of code except that part.

It seems like data has a lot to do with the placement of sprites... hm...

The data in layers means what tile should be used for that layer at the specific position in the map.
There are different types of layers, some which have special meanings.
Background layers display the tile on screen
Navigation layers store area mapping for path finding
Collisions layers store where the map ends (No Ground/Water)
Light maps are used for lighting (Currently unused)
Height maps store the height of tiles

The light map is not used directly but it's converted to a different structure that determines the lighting of the scene - Basically where you have more shadows or less.
