I accidentally overwrote my save file

by Syameon25 » Sun Apr 29, 2018 10:17 pm

I started a new save file to go through the game again and when I saved I accidentally overwrote my old save, just wondering if there was anyway to get it back.

There are five possibilities.

Before you do anything I would strongly recommend to make a copy of the current Savefile and the Backup file (path linked below).

The location of the used Savefile is the following:

  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrossCode\cc.save
  • Linux: ~/.config/CrossCode/Default/cc.save
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/CrossCode/Default/cc.save

The location of the backup is the following:

  • Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrossCode\cc.save.backup
  • Linux: ~/.config/CrossCode/Default/cc.save.backup
  • macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/CrossCode/Default/cc.save.backup

Possibility 1: Restore from a backup

If you have no backup. I would recommend to start using backups (You can e.g. automate this process). Also: Make sure that you can restore your saved backups.

Possibility 2: Restoring you save by using the backup savefile

(if it's not overwritten yet)
Rename the backup file cc.save.backup to cc.save and start the game

Possibility 3: Restoring you save by using steam cloud

(if it's not overwritten yet, you are using steam and steam cloud is enabled)

Possibility 4: Play from a preset or other save again

Select a preset or an other save in the main menu and play from this point again.

Possibility 5: Recreate your save by using an savegame editor

You can use a preset or an other save as base.
